Specificity
These antibodies recognize K99+ E. coli. They do not cross-react with K99-negative E. coli (B41), E. coli K88ac, E. coli 987P, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter aerogenes, Citrobacter freundii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Strep. agalactiae.
Background
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) relies heavily on fimbrial adhesins, primarily the K99 (F5) pilus, to colonize the intestinal tracts of neonatal livestock. The K99 pilus is a highly immunogenic, multimeric protein appendage composed of major structural subunits that bind specifically to host glycoproteins. Monoclonal antibodies targeting these distinct conformational epitopes on the K99 pilus are critical for developing highly sensitive immunoassays capable of neutralizing or detecting ETEC before severe secretory diarrhea occurs.
These antibodies have been qualified for use in ELISA to detect K99+ E. coli.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic/therapeutics procedures.
