MUC5AC (gastric mucin) belongs to the gel-forming mucin family of glycoproteins, the major components of the protective mucus layer on the mucosal surfaces of epithelial tissues. Mucus protects the tissue surface from mechanical damage, stabilizes the luminal microenvironment, and traps pathogens including bacteria and viruses for mucociliarly clearance.
Immunohistochemical analysis: 1:500-1:800; Flowcytometry analysis: 1-2 µg/10^6 cells
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic/therapeutics procedures.
Subcellular location: | Secreted |
Post transnational modification: | Proteolytic cleavage in the C-terminal is initiated early in the secretory pathway and does not involve a serine protease. The extent of cleavage is increased in the acidic parts of the secretory pathway. Cleavage generates a reactive group which could link the protein to a primary amide. |
