Kallikrein 5 (KLK5), also known as the stratum corneum tryptic enzyme, is a serine protease that belongs to Kallikrein gene family. KLK5 is expressed mainly in skin, breast, brain and testis and to a lesser extent in many other tissues. Recent studies suggested that KLK5 plays a role in the suppression of tumorigenesis in breast and prostate cancers. The overexpression of KLK5 is also an indicator of poor prognosis in ovarian cancer.
